To Blog Or Not To Blog?

As a business owner and social media manager, I often get asked by clients if blogging is worth the time and effort?  As a regular blogger in my personal capacity, believe it or not, I too have raised the question, to blog or not to blog?

How will blogging help my business?

Blogging helps your business to compete

There are many businesses offering the same service as you do.  Although no business is identical, you need to emphasize why you are unique and what sets you apart from your competitors.  Blogging will help show your personality, experience, and get across information to your customers and future customers.

Statistically blogging has been proven to help businesses

It's always good to hear that blogging helps to build brand awareness but without any tangible evidence, you may not be convinced.   Thanks to studies and surveys, the stats show that:

  • custom content from blogs warms prospective customers up to your business

  • businesses that blog tend to get more leads than those that don't

  • blogging can be just as effective in promoting your company than through advertisements

  • blogging helps buyers find out more about you

A blog is a communication channel with your customer

A good website gets your customer there, but a business blog is like a two-way conversation.  It helps to build a relationship with current and potential customers.

In a business blog, you can get your information across in a more informal, casual, and personal way. You can use the comments section to chat with your readers and customers.  Engaging with customers, hearing their point of view, and giving them the opportunity to be heard.

A blog offers insight into your audience

The more you know about your target audience, the better you can serve them.  Through analytics,  comments, and feedback, you can find out what topics appeal to your audience.

A blog can improve your SEO

One last reason to blog is that it can improve your search engine rankings.  Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a long term process comprised of a number of different activities.  A blog won't get you on the first page of Google overnight, but it will over time significantly enhance and improve your rankings.

The reason for this, search engines reward you for producing fresh content, for using relevant keywords, and meeting the needs of online searchers.  With a blog, you can do all three.
